It's the Simple Things

The fear we felt today is indescribable. It’s as if everything stopped and though the earthquake that happened today lasted in seconds, for us, it was the longest “seconds” of our lives.
Upon walking home, I saw this butterfly. 

I wanted to cry when I saw this because at that moment, I realized that there is always hope and all things will be calm after just like the stillness I’ve seen from this butterfly. This moment for me is a realization to appreciate small things, just like this simple but significant picture because we’ll never know when this moment will happen again. 
For today, I am thankful that all of us are safe.
I am thankful that I was able to go home and see my family.
I am thankful that I saw the beauty of this butterfly.
