I felt so proud to have indirectly helped another family member because I remember the first time I heard my student Hailey- thank me because she was able to help her mother translate one of her conversations over the phone. It was indeed a simple gesture but- it made me inspired to be better in my chosen career which is being an ESL Teacher.
There are many challenges of being an ESL Teacher but I would want to cite one issue here:
Experiencing Technical Problems- this is a big hurdle. Oftentimes, the class is only 25 minutes but if there is a problem like this when you are teaching- it gives you so many anxieties and heart attacks because you may miss the lesson or worst the student’s parents will get ANNOYED.
But of course, there is a solution. Planning!! Make sure that you have the minimum required specifications for all your computer equipment and you have studied how to use the platform. Always check your computer equipment before every lesson to see if there are any issues you need to address immediately. Invest in a backup power and Internet source, so you don’t miss a lesson in case of power interruptions. And Lastly- CHILL. ATTEND TO TEACHER’S MEETING EVERY SATURDAY.
