Why My Family Celebrate Thanksgiving
A festival celebrated by Native Americans for a good and bountiful harvest. Hence, its original name was Harvest Feast. Native Americans helped in the survival of new settlers, later to be known as the colonies, specifically, the Pilgrims of Plymouth Rock, now known as the state of Virginia. This is the short version of the history of Thanksgiving.
Our family is mixed race, we are both, Native American and Spanish-Filipino. We have inherited a lot of traditions from both sides. My grandparents made sure that we celebrate Thanksgiving as a reminder of our Iroquois heritage. They always tell us that we celebrate not only to give thanks for our harvest, but we celebrate being Oneida, and be proud that we are one with the Wolf Clan.
