A. Vocabulary

1. bland (adjective) - not having a strong taste or character;

not showing any interest or energy

(ex: I did not enjoy my meal earlier because it tasted bland.)

2. raw (adjective) - uncooked

(ex: She didn't touch the sushi because she doesn't like raw food.)

3. tender (adjective) - easy to cut or chew; not tough

(ex: The steak was so tender, just how I like it.)

4. appetizer (noun) - a small dish or drink taken before a meal or the main course

(ex: They served us garlic bread as our appetizer and it was delicious.)

5. course (noun) - a dish or set of dishes served together

(ex:It was my first time to eat at a 5-course meal restaurant.)

6. cuisine (noun) - a style or method of cooking as characteristic of a

particular country, region, or establishment

(ex: I really enjoy Japanese cuisine.)

7. cutlery (noun) - knives, forks, and spoons used for eating or serving food

(ex: If you open the top drawer, you will see all the expensive cutlery.)

8. entree (noun) - the main course of a meal

(ex: The restaurant offers a vegetarian entree as well.)

9. scrumptious (adjective) - extremely tasty; delicious

10. luscious (adjective) - having a pleasingly rich, sweet taste

B. Phrases

1. "as easy as pie" - it means something that is very simple to do

(ex: Don't worry, skiing is as easy as pie. You'll learn it very quickly.)

2. "have all your eggs in one basket" - to put too much faith in one thing

(ex: I put all my eggs in one basket when I quit my job and started my business. Unfortunately, it didn't end well.)

3. "apple of my eye" - a person or thing that one loves very much

(ex: My grandmother loved all of us very much but I was the apple of her eye.)

4. "spill the beans" - to accidentally say something you shouldn't have

(ex: We were planning a surprise birthday party for my sister but her boyfriend spilled the beans.)

5. "that's the way the cookie crumbles" - how things turn out

(ex: I'm disappointed that I didn't get the job but that's the way the cookie crumbles.)
